Words of Wisdom

Maqàlàt-e-Hikmat (The Words of Wisdom) are at once the Hadrat Abu Anees’s life story and sayings. The book has the accounts of his family living and upbringing, the heart rending eye witnessed massacre of Muslims during the independence and  partition of the sub-Continent of India in to Bharat and Pakistan (East and West) in 1947, his allegoric narrations as a pilgrim on the path of Sülook (theopathy or journey in to faqr), the hitherto rare glimpse in to the lives of well known sufi masters, the luminaries of Islam and fascinating tales of the not so well-known amongst them, and most of all painful dispatches from the battlefields of major defenders of the early history of Islam, especially martyrdom of Imam Hussain and tragedy of Karbala. These monumental writings are pristinely original, neither borrowed nor copied, the essence of his contemplations, and easy to read and digest. The orientalists have hailed these words as ‘lessons of reality’ which according to the author himself ‘provide spotlights for research in to all fields and aspects of Islam.’

In common with the other Volumes in the series, The Words of Wisdom Volume 11 as well comprises the author Ḥaḍrat Abū Anees Muḥammad Barkat 'Ali's statements on matters concerning Ḥuqūq Allāh (duties owed to Allāh the Almighty), Ḥuqūq al-'Ibad (rights of the fellow human beings) and Ḥuqūq an-Nafs (rights owed to one's self). The Ḥuqūq (rights/duties)  are enlisted and duly illustrated  through the stories of the Prophets and the Pious of the Old  in the Holy Qur'ān and clearly explained  by His last and final Messenger to mankind, the Holy Prophet Muḥammad, whose sayings and practices have duly been preserved  for the believers to emulate.

Allāh the Almighty is the Creator of the Universe and its habitat and their Sustainer and Provider. The Volume under review has some examples of His concerns for the humankind enumerated during His Daily Call at Ḥazirat Al-Quds (The Nightly Holy Assembly). Accordingly the creatures all are free to speak out for help in case, for instance, of their sufferings or needs, physical, psychological and or pecuniary. Simultaneously, Ḥaḍrat Abū Anees has paraphrased herein the reverent mode of hailing Him with His beautiful Ascriptions  as in Ḥirz -i-Basmallāh  composed by Ḥaḍrat Sayyid 'Abdul Qadir Al-Jilani Sultan of Awliyā' Allāh (d. 1166 CE).

Allāh the Almighty is the loving par excellence to His creatures and, therefore, would listen to and fulfil their problems with utmost kindness and mercy. The author writes: "When addressing Allāh the Almighty, there is hardly any need of any long winded conversation. Saying like this is sufficient, 'O my Lord, the Honoured, the Exalted! Please render such and such a job for me!'"
